Attila Varga
European Master Stonemason
The professional roots of Panthera Stone Carving Ltd. stem from the traditions of a family business that dates back more than 50 years. Varga Attila, his father, founded his individual business in 1975. In the early years, the main activity was the manufacture of stone sculptures: the creation of monuments, window sills, fence panels and steps defined the daily work.
With the growing demand for natural stone, the business’s activities gradually expanded towards traditional stone carving. The next generation growing up in the workshops was already familiar with the profession from childhood, thus naturally making the transmission of family knowledge a clear priority. As a result, in 2002 the company was founded. Varga és Fiai Kft., which was already engaged in the production and installation of building and decorative stone products, both natural stone and artificial stone.
Attila Varga’s professional career was completed in this family business. He studied as a stone sculptor and decorative sculptor, and gained more than two decades of practical experience within the Varga és Fiai Kft. His successes in domestic and international stone carving competitions, as well as prestigious professional accolades, confirmed the direction of the business to open up to sculptural and artistic work.
Professional development was an important milestone in European stone carving master course accredited in Brussels, During this period, experiences gained in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy deepened the traditional craftsmanship knowledge as well as the knowledge acquired in the field of historical restoration and reconstruction. With the successful completion of the master’s degree program, Attila Varga became the first person in Hungary to obtain the European Master Stonemason the title.
The scope of the enterprise subsequently expanded: public sculptures, monuments, reliefs, religious-themed works of art, and restoration of historical monuments became a defining part of the work.
Founded in 2024, Panthera Kőszobrászat Kft. today represents a professional approach based on several decades of family tradition, professional knowledge at the European level, and creative responsibility. Its goal is to create timeless, lasting values that serve communities in a worthy way, preserve historical and cultural heritage, and uphold the honor of the stone carving profession.
What we're good at
Our work is born from the meeting of traditional hand stone carving and modern knowledge. We are at our clients' disposal in the following areas — every creation is uniquely designed from natural stone.
The mission of Panthera Stone Carving Ltd. is to create lasting, timeless works of art by combining the stone carving tradition that has been passed down through multiple generations with the professional craftsmanship of European standards.
With my work, I not only give form to stone, but also create a memorial to communities, historical events, and spiritual values.
We believe that stone-based works have a responsibility: they affect their surroundings, the people who live there, and future generations.
Tradition and craftsmanship
The basis of our work is the respect for classic artisanal stone carving, which we complement with knowledge of modern technologies and their conscious application.
Professional credibility
We consider proper training, precise preparation and professional responsibility to be important in every assignment – whether it is a unique sculpture, a monument or a restoration of a historical monument.
Quality and durability
Our goal is not to create quick solutions, but to create works that retain their aesthetic and intellectual value even after decades or centuries have passed.
Respect for the material and the client
Considering the natural stone’s characteristics, we work in accordance with the client’s ideas, complementing them with professional experience, building a shared understanding of the process.
My goal is to become a key player in the Hungarian stone carving and stone sculpting profession in the long term.
I would like to create public and religious works that strengthen community identity, historical memory, and respect for cultural values.
I also feel it is my duty to preserve and pass on the good reputation of the profession to the next generations – through exemplary work, professional humility and a responsible creative approach.
Acknowledgments
Our professional work is measured by craftsmanship and authenticity. Attila Varga was the first in Hungary to earn the title of European Master Stone Carver, and he has won first place multiple times in domestic and international stone carving competitions. These accolades are not our goals, but rather affirmations of our commitment: we approach every order with the same level of meticulousness and respect.
